Who is responsible

Joel Nicola Schaltenbrand, Laufen, Switzerland. Email: [email protected].

Visiting this site

When you open a page, the server receives what any web server needs to deliver it: your IP address, the time, the address requested, the referrer if your browser sends one, and your browser and operating system. The site is hosted by Hosttech GmbH in Switzerland. Every request passes through Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc., USA, and Cloudflare Germany GmbH) as a reverse proxy, which filters attacks and abusive traffic and may set the technically required cookie __cf_bm.

The site itself sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, runs no analytics and shows no ads. Fonts and images are served from this server.

The legal basis is the legitimate interest in a working and secure site (Art. 31(1) FADP; Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The hosting provider keeps its server logs for 14 days and then deletes them automatically. A log entry can only be matched to a particular visit if you tell me the IP address and the time.

The counter of fire brigade call-outs

When you scroll to the numbers on the home page, your browser fetches the current count of fire brigade call-outs from fw.schaltenbrand.swiss, which is my own site on the same hosting as this one. That server receives the same technical details as described above and nothing else. The other numbers are part of the page itself; your browser contacts no other site.

The legal basis is the legitimate interest in showing a current figure (Art. 31(1) FADP; Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

When you write to me

Mail to [email protected] is stored with Proton AG in Switzerland. I use it only to reply and delete it once it is no longer needed for that.

Data outside Switzerland

Cloudflare may process data in the United States. It is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its Swiss extension, which the Swiss Federal Council and the European Commission recognise as adequate, and also relies on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

You can ask what data about you is processed, have it corrected or deleted, and object to its processing. An email to the address above is enough.

You can complain to the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), Feldeggweg 1, 3003 Bern, edoeb.admin.ch, or, in the EU, to the supervisory authority of the country you live in.
